Gain confidence as a speaker

Gain Confidence as a speaker

THE MIND IS A WONDERFUL THING. IT SHTARTS TO WORK THE MINUTE YOU ARE BORN, AND NEVER STOPS UNTIL YOU GET UP TO SPEAK IN PUBLIC – JOHN MASON BROWN.

More than one opinion survey has indicated that speaking before an audience is a number life time fear. Although it is quite frightening and may afflict you much like a disease, you can overcome the stage fright.

 YES, YOU CAN!

  • Accept podium anxiety as a motivating force that even the most talented performer’s experience.
  •

  • Prepare so completely that your expert knowledge makes you feel invulnerable and unstoppable.
  •

  • Study the audience so thoroughly that you are sure you know how to push their “hot buttons.”
  •

  • Rehearse your presentation from the very lectern in the very room where you’ll deliver it.
  •

  • Before you retire, visualize and anticipate success. See and hear yourself presenting with great exuberance, confidence and enormous triumph. Enjoy a standing ovation.
  •

  • Involve your audience actively in your presentation from the beginning. Get them up on their feet; invite them to the front of the room to register opinions on a tote board; having them tell you the portions of your presentation they hope you’ll emphasize. Share with your audience the responsibility to kick off a great catch.
  •

  • Use overhead transparencies or other audiovisuals to give the audience something to look at besides you.
  •

  • Expend a burst of energy by doing something strenuous just prior to stepping to the lectern. Take a brisk walk or climb few flights of stairs.
  •

  • Use the squeeze technique to draw nervous energy out of your body through your arms. Fiercely clutch the sides of the lectern. Crush a flip chart marker in your fist. Pinch your fingertips together with your arms down at your side.
  •

  • When asked to speak, us the “rule of three.” Think immediately of the angle you want to take on the topic, and put three main ideas in your head about that topic. These might reflect three challenges, three benefits, three benefits, three methods, or three anything else. You can also pose three questions you will answer in your talk (for example, what, where, and why).
  • Thus, if you want to be a speaker and gain confidence and acceptability as a speaker you need to prepare at least three weeks before you could deliver a good speech.
