Offline Advertising 101 – Creative use of Offline Advertising

Today advertisers on the internet concentrate only on how they can advertise their products and goods by online methods such as UTube, Google, MSN and the like but even though these are very good places to advertise there is another area that seldom is used and that is …..

OFFLINE advertising methods.

Can you remember when your mom or pop wanted to sell that old washing machine? What did they do?

They took a piece of paper wrote a description: Good washing machine for sale only: $–.–

Then possible added a picture, their phone number, best time to call and any other pertinent information to sell the washing machine.

Put their phone number on the paper about 10 – 15 times in little boxes cut or ripped strips on the paper so the interested party can take the phone number with them.

Now where to place their advertisements with a little thinking they thought Laundromats the ones that had bulletin boards to post the ads.

In a few days mom and pop started to receive telephone calls and in a couple of weeks sold their washing machine.

Why did this form of advertising work.

1) It was targeted to the right people. People who didn’t have a washing machine but would be in the market if the right machine came along.

2) They did something by being proactive by making the ads and posting them in the most likely place someone looking for a washing machine would be.

3) Made it easy for the prospective buyer to take their telephone number down.

4) Had a description that suited the location and the clientele.

5) A call to action was needed for the person to take the telephone number.

Suggestions:

Choose a product that appeals to people and tell it in person. Phone, friend, in a line at a grocery store, on a bus, in the park. Just let your imagination go wild with this one. The more passionate you are about your product the better your chances are in selling the product.

Why not post an advertisement in a Laundromat, grocery store or just about any where you can post a card or 3 x 5 inch card.

As an example do businesses need Anti-Virus Programs and Spyware Removal? Yes. Leave a business card with a link a product that would interest them. What other products could a business use? Do some research and then present the product to them.

Free source of Business Cards: vistaprint.com you can get 250 of them for free. (There is an advertisement on the back of the cards but free is good.)

Have you thought of creating cheap flyers? Why not try an experiment and go from door to door with them. Take a flyer to businesses in your area. Don’t leave the flyers at a door where no one is home. Try to had the flyer to a real person at least your audience will look at it instead of blue boxing it.

How about going to a sign company and getting a magnetic sign made for your car advertising a product you are trying to sell or having the lettering put right on to your car.

Think about it companies pay people to drive cars with their logos on them. Would anyone pay money to do that unless there is a benefit to the company advertising.

How about newspaper classified advertising, Radio or TV advertising? It all depends on your budget. Remember with offline advertising it usually takes three times for this type of advertising for a person to take notice.

Remember use your head and think about where you can advertise and I am sure you will find a place where you can and that will be effective for you.
