How to Pick the Right Shades for Your Face Type

Knowing your face type can make the process of picking out the right pair of sunglasses a whole lot easier. One good method for determining your face type is to stand in front of a mirror and trace the outline of your face on it using a washable marker. Look at the outline you’ve traced and determine what the rough shape is. If your cheekbone area is wider than your forehead and jaw and the length and width of your face overall is the same, you have a round face. If the forehead, cheekbones and jaw are all just as wide, and your overall face shape is the same length and width, you have a square face. If your forehead, cheekbones and jaw are all just as wide and your face overall is longer than it is wide, you have a rectangular face. If your face is oval shaped, meaning cheekbones wider than jaw and forehead but with a longer overall face, you have an oval shaped face. And lastly, if your forehead is significantly wider than your jaw, you have a diamond or heart shaped face. Here are the specifics on what styles of sunglasses go well with the different face types.Round Face – The round face looks best with wide sunglasses. Getting sunglasses that are narrower than your face only exaggerates your face’s roundness and with. Rectangular frames with soft edges are best. Oval Face – The oval face is the most versatile type of face, as it is well balanced and looks good with any style of sunglasses. Square Face - Square faces look good with oval or cat-eye lenses. They help soften the face’s sharp angles. Rectangular Face – The rectangular face looks good with sunglasses that are narrower than the widest part of the face. This balances the length of the face my making it appear wider. Glasses with temple decorations on the frame add to the effect.Heart Shaped Face – Aviator glasses, cat-eyes and half-rim or rimless glasses help balance the heart shape face’s narrow jaw line. As a general rule of thumb, if you have a small face, get small sunglasses, and if you have a large face, get larger glasses.
