Australia is a country known as for its vast amounts of scenic beauty and friendly people. Beyond these initial observations it is clear that there is so much more to Australia than meets the eye, great skiing. This is important because the country has a long and illustrious history of participation in the sport going back many decades. As a result, millions of people from around the globe will travel to the many different ski areas to see for themselves what skiing in Australia is all about. New South Wales The history of skiing in Australia goes back many years as the sport was first able to gain popularity in New South Wales. This is where some of highest peaks are located along with the oldest and largest resorts in the country. Victoria Victoria has the most ski areas in all of Australia and is home to Mount Bogong which stands 1,986 meters tall. Skiing was first developed in this area during the 1890â€™s as simple way for miners to be able to move back fourth during the winter. As the sport became more popular the overall amount of ski resorts increased dramatically with the Mount Buller Inter school ski events as the largest single snow event in the world. Capital Territory In the Australian Capital Territory cross country skiing is all the rage with many participants finding Mount Gingera as the best way to be able to cross country ski when the conditions are most ideal. Tasmania Tasmania has outstanding skiing for those who are seeking added adventure and challenge. With much of the area subject to winter storms that are coming out of Antarctica. In all, there are total of eight mountains that exceed 1,500 meters, the most popular being Mount Wellington which rises above the capital Hobart. Clearly Australia has a wide variety of ski resorts, with all of them offering the challenges that you will find in other areas with that overall unique feel that makes them truly Australian. Banff is one of the natural wonders of the West, from high snow covered peaks to roaring rapids and stunning canyons Banff has something different to offer everyone. If your heading to Banff to ski the fresh powder, be excited, three world class resorts await you: Lake Louise, Sunshine Village, and Mount Norquay.Â With a local Airport Banff can accommodated any occasion you might have in mind whether a leisurely golf escape or a beautiful wedding.Â The point off this article is to offer some practical information of Banff and some basic information about the ski resorts located there.

1)Â Â Banff is a small town nested in the Alberta Rockies of Alberta, Canada. With two towns located in the Banff Nation Park, Banff being the largest and closest to Calgary which is about an hour and a half drive to the west.Â Although Banff has a local airport for international flights, Calgary will be your first destination. After landing in Calgary you will take the Trans Canada Highway west.Â For those not renting a Vehicle the airport has access to three shuttle services which provide transport to the town of Banff and Lake Louis: Banff Airporter inc., Brewster Airporter & resort connector, and the Mountain Connector. So there is really no lack of quick access to the town.

2)Â Â Lake Louise is probably the most known ski resort in the area. The ski resort has a base elevation of 5,400ft and a summit elevation of 8,652ft. With 15ft of snow a year covering a total skiable area of 4,200 acres there is no lack of fresh snow for everyone.Â 139 ski runs are accessible by a state of the art lift system: 9 lifts total wit 3 surface lifts, one triple, one fixed grip quad, two high speed quads (super chairs), one high speed 6 chair, and one Gondola. Also there are 3 terrain parks for the snowboarders.

3)Â Â Sunshine Village is located about 15 minutes west of Banff. The resort has a base elevation of 5,446ft and a summit elevation of 8,957ft. With an average of 30ft of snow a year its almost double that of Lake Louis. 107 ski runs cover 8,957 acres of terrain. The runs are accessible by 12 lifts: 5 high speed quad chairs, 2 fixed grip quad chairs, one triple, one double chair, 2 magic carpets, and one Gondola. The resort can support 20,000 skiers an hour.

4)Â Â Mount Norquay is the smallest of the three resorts. Its base elevation is 5,348 ft and has a summit elevation of 6,998ft. It has 33 runs which cover .3 sq miles of terrain. Access is provided by 4 chairlifts and has a terrain park for the riders.

Which ever way you decide to go once you reach Banff your sure to have a great time.

If the weather is starting to get cold, dreary and dark, it could well be time to start looking for a short break abroad to get away from it for a while. It stands to reason that you donâ€™t want to go too far, since you donâ€™t want to be travelling the whole time. So why not opt for a long weekend in Rome to shake things up a bit? Rome makes a fantastic destination for a short break. It offers the best of the ancient world and the new world, with shopping and sightseeing all rolled into one compact city. Since you can walk to many places you wonâ€™t have to worry too much about getting to grips with public transport either. So where should you head for first? The most famous Roman sights include the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. These will give you an idea of how strongly the ancient sights of Rome come together among the modern sights that have appeared all around them ever since. While the Colosseum is perhaps the most famous sight in Rome, the Roman Forum is arguably even more impressive. It stands largely in ruins, but enough of it is left to impress upon us the importance and majesty of how the Romans used to live. With temples, columns and arches all still present in one form or another, it makes a captivating place to visit. Is Rome all about the ancient times, or does it offer more to see for the casual tourist as well? Indeed it does, and a good example of something a little more modern is the Trevi Fountain. This is only just coming up to 250 years old, so it is a mere baby compared to many of the ancient Roman structures in the city! This features Neptune in a chariot, and many people come to the fountain to throw a coin into the water. This isnâ€™t done for good luck as you might think; instead it is done because it apparently means you will one day come back to Rome. Not a bad reason for parting with a coin or two. While you are out and about wandering around the many sights that Rome has to offer, be sure you donâ€™t miss out on the shopping that can be enjoyed there. Via del Corso is a good street to start in â€“ it offers various well known stores including one for Swarovski crystal. Piazza de Spagna is another good area to head for; you can see the Spanish Steps here as well as visiting some of the best known boutiques in the world. Youâ€™ll find plenty of Rome hotels to stay in while you are in the city, so find one that suits you and be prepared to be late back as you stay out exploring for as long as possible.

When you arrive in Boston, you are arriving in a city that is approaching four hundred years old. As such it has lots of activities and attractions to offer to its visitors, both modern ones and those that have existed for a long time. But there is a lot more to Boston than meets the eye â€“ and despite the fact that itâ€™s a city, it is also home to lots of animals. From islands to zoos, there is plenty here to pique your interest. The Franklin Park Zoo in Boston has plenty of animals of all descriptions you can take the whole family to see. One of the key features of this zoo is that it has painstakingly recreated different regions of the world for their animals to live in â€“ and also for you to experience. Apparently the gorillas are very popular at the zoo, and you will find them in the tropical section. Elsewhere there is an African section which has lions you can get up close to â€“ with just a pane of glass between you and them. Not all the animals live apart from each other either. Some will share the same space with others, just as they would if they were living in the wild. This aspect of the zoo makes a visit quite fascinating. If you would rather see animals in the wild you can do that too in Boston. Just head for Boston Harbour and book yourself onto one of the cruises that depart from there on a regular basis. This will give you the opportunity to go whale watching. You may also see dolphins in the wild if you give this trip a go, and while nothing is guaranteed the odds of seeing both species are very good indeed. Back at Central Wharf in Boston you can see more aquatic mammals by going to the New England Aquarium. Everything from anacondas to sharks is on display here, and if you have ever wanted to say hi to a turtle named Myrtle, this is your chance! Finally why not head over to one of Bostonâ€™s islands for the day? Not everyone realises that there are thirty four islands very close to Boston itself, and this gives you a whole new world to explore during a trip to the city. Grape Island is best for viewing all kinds of different wildlife. If you have a good camera with a zoom lens and some binoculars, you can look forward to an active dayâ€™s walking and a chance to see plenty of different birds. You wonâ€™t be far from the action regardless of which of the many Boston hotels you decide to stay in. So make sure you get to see all of the above sights â€“ it makes for a fascinating trip to this old American city.
